Today we carried on working down to the next context which was a clay layer. We then dug a small sondage to see how deep the layer of clay was and came across a D shaped cermaic field drainage pipe dating from 1700s. This was interesting as it demonstrated the need for drainage in the field which had been used for agriculture.
