On Sunday 6 Sept AiM began to excavate a new site at Northycote Farm. A trench was started in the field to investigate a feature showing on LIDAR which may be a possible platform.
It was quite a trek to get to the site and a test for our new wheeled equipment wagon which was very kindly supplied to AiM by Perton Parish Council. The 'off road' wheels proved themselves superbly across the tussocks of grass and general undergrowth of numerous trees. The photograph shows a few AiM members on site beginning to remove the turf.
A 4m x 0.35m exploratory trench was begun initially but was extended in two directions as we quite quickly came across a compacted clay area with small chunky pieces of roof tile found along with many flecks of charcoal.
Weather permitting we will return next Sunday to continue with the excavation.
